Background

  • Only child of Richard Monroe and Venus Vasiliou.

  • Richard was a business owner, inherited his family's money and titles.

  • Venus was a model, who caught Richards eye before they even knew each other's backgrounds.

  • The two fell in love over a summer, and kept contact over years before accidentally meeting again at a public event.

  • The two discussed their backgrounds and decided to go public and were married a few years later.

  • Jessamina, or Jay as it was shortened, was their first, and last child. They had an agreement to stop trying once they had a daughter.

  • Even though the married couple were happy usually, that didn't stop the expectations Richard had for their daughter.

  • Jay was made to be the perfect little daughter. Quiet, pretty, only spoke when spoken to.

  • As she grew, Richard expected her to make something of herself, pushing her to pick some skill to hone in her life to get attention.

  • That ended up becoming the only way her father payed any attention to her at all, only if she achieved something, was she noticed.

  • She tried everything. Sports, art, music, she had a knack for singing, but martial arts was what really stuck.

  • Her mother, while she tried to be there as much as possible was flighty. Always going places with her friends, bringing Jay to show off to her little clique.

  • When she was home though, she was a mother. Taught her, loved her, protected her, gave her as much of herself as she could.

  • Her life turned sour when she became a teenager, when her mother got sick.

  • Apparently, Venus had a rare genetic mutation, causing early degradation of her immune system.

  • One summer, she caught a viral infection, that started as a light cough, but quickly became a terminal infection in her lungs. She didn't make it through the fall, passing away right before Jay started high school.

  • After that her entire life circled around pleasing her father, vying for his attention in anyway she could.

  • She became more feminine than she had been, started cheerleading, made straight A's, even competing in martial arts competitions around the country, but her father no longer cared about anything she had to offer.

  • He remarried, a stiff, chilly woman by the name of Cordelia, who shut Jay out of her father's life as much as possible.

  • She openly showed her mother's beauty as she grew, her dark hair, slim build, and ended up becoming the center of attention at her school.

  • She wasn't mean, per say, just closed off. Some perceived her as stuck up, snotty, and made as many enemies as friends.

  • When her junior year came around, being the so called 'Queen Bee' she acquired a lot of attention during that football season, particularly the eye of the wide receiver.

  • When their rival school's game against them came, it was held at Jay's school, and ended in a landslide win for the team.

  • The wide receiver, James Stevens, had decided because the two were in the same crowds, she was a perfect choice as a girlfriend.

  • Jay rejected him, having no interest in him, and he did not take that well.

  • He cornered her in the locker rooms, assaulting her and ridiculing her for not accepting his offer.

  • She told her counselor, her friends, the principal, but not a single one did anything to help her. Her friends even shut her out, abandoning her for trying to spreading a rumor so awful.

  • She shut down, cutting off all communication between anyone she had been speaking to, even pulling herself out of in person classes and switching to online schooling.

  • Once she graduated, summa cum laude, Honors Society, Beta club, more achievements she could list, her father finally reached out and asked if she'd be interested in learning the ropes of the family business.

  • She accepted, excited to be able to finally have some worth in her father's eyes. She started business school, the same university her father went to.

  • Cordelia, being displeased with his attention to his daughter and not her, started to lie to Richard about her conversations with Jay, telling him she had insulted her and her family, telling Cordelia she was nothing compared to her.

  • She again, lost everything she had when Richard decided to drop Jay entirely after he was convinced of her actions.

  • Jay tried to tell her father the truth, but he wouldn't hear it, cutting her out of his life completely, and moving with Cordelia back to France.

  • Jay, now completely alone in New York, changed majors, and began trying to build a life of her own.

  • Richard died two years later, having ignored signs of infection in his vascular system.

  • Jay was left with half of his accounts, part of her mother's prenuptial agreement. She doesn't touch them unless she has to, using just the one she acquired from her mother's death.

The Symbiote

  • Jay lives alone, having shut out anyone she had cared about.

  • One night, going home from her day job, she was followed by a man on the street, and he attacked her.

  • She defended herself, albeit getting cut down the face twice in the altercation. She knocked him out, but upon his fall, his head cracked open on the base of a streetlight, killing him.

  • She planned on calling the police, but before she could, a form of pure shadow, seeped out of a grate in the street, consuming the body before her eyes.

  • The being opened its white eyes and blinked at her, stretching towards her and grazing her shoulder.

  • She immediately pictured the past of this creature, the alien having been casted out by his brethren, stranded on Earth.

  • The symbiote curled around her shoulders, not adhering to her, but almost embracing her, as if in understanding.

  • Having never felt this kind of acceptance, she brought it home with her.

Bowie

  • Has been on Earth for over one hundred years.

  • Kept himself fed on whatever small prey he could catch for as long as he could, until he was found and abducted by scientists in the eighties.

  • Was kept in Area 51 for years, being used as an experiment.

  • He was forced into an attachment with one of the scientists, having had his biological symbiosis used against him.

  • He was chemically sedated, given a solution to force his body into the symbiotic form his species used to be bound to another.

  • That traumatized him, and when the scientist started to degrade, he absorbed him completely, teaching to speak.

  • He then decided to break free of his captivity, consuming the people who had tormented him for so long.

  • He remained unbound for as long as he could, but now having realized what his form truly needed to survive, he began to hunt people, taking those who tried to harm others for their own selfish gain.

  • When he met Jay, he hadn't meant to show her his past, but as he slipped over to her, he found her experience similar to his.

  • As he began to stay with her, the two began to bond as beings, and when Jay decided to watch a favorite movie of hers, Labyrinth, he chose to call himself Bowie.

Current Day

  • Jay and Bowie, having experienced similar pain in being violated in ways that no one should have to suffer, decided to go after those who inflicted that pain in others.

  • Bowie still had to eat after all, and what better way to feed him, than disposing of those who harmed others in such an unforgivable way.

  • So, the two bonded completely, and adopted the moniker of Reaper, one who punishes the worst of them, when the wheels of justice turn too slow. They find, hunt, and consume men and women alike, who tear autonomy from others for their own gain. Especially those of kids.

Jay

  • Quiet, keeps to herself most of the time.

  • You won't even know she's there unless she speaks, because her voice carries.

  • Tough. Practical. Does her best to stay out of the way.

  • When she's interacting positively, she makes bad jokes. Awful jokes. It's the only way she knows how to communicate sometimes.

  • If the person she's talking to is sad, she tries to make them laugh. And most of the time it comes out so wrong.

  • When she's interacting negatively, she becomes an ice queen. Sharp and cold, snapping hard and going straight for any insecurities she can find.

Bowie

  • Quiet type

  • Protective of Jay. Stays as close to her as he can most of the time.

  • Isn't easily excited, but absolutely gets into it when he is. You get him doing something he enjoys and it's a free for all.

  • Has a keen sense of justice, which is strange for his species.

  • Surprisingly empathetic. Might come from how long he's been on Earth or otherwise, he's not sure.

  • Enjoys music. Instrumentals are his favorite.
